Description

The Accademia Olimpica in Vicenza has been active since 1555. It was founded by a sodality of scientists, men of letters and artists, including Andrea Palladio, who was entrusted with the design of the Olimpico, inaugurated in 1585, the oldest covered theatre in the world, now a Unesco heritage site. The Academy has a statutory obligation to supervise its conservation and proper use. It carries out an intense cultural and scientific activity, publishes numerous series and promotes specific initiatives for the school and university world. Its Library, founded in 1556, is flanked by the Ancient and Modern Archives and several important book collections. It combines the study of the past with a work of reflection and critical awareness of the problems of the present and the future.
