This represents 24% of the total area of Catalonia and 74% of the total Catalan population (5.7 million people). It acts directly by providing services and, above all, in cooperation with city councils. It is an institution governed by mayors and councillors of the Barcelona city councils chosen indirectly, because its components, the deputies, are elected from among the mayors and councillors of the town councils, grouped by judicial parties.
