Nearly 450 million citizens will be called upon to elect the Members of the European Parliament in the upcoming European elections which will be held in the 27 EU Member States from 6 to 9 June 2024. The 2024 elections will represent a solemn moment for European citizens who will be able to shape the future of the EU and strengthen democracy by having the opportunity to express their opinions on the topics they care about.

The European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) warmly welcomes the momentous decision taken by the European Commission to recommend the opening of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, while with the long-anticipated granting of candidate status to Georgia and the initiation of accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. This historic step greatly enhances the prospects for these States’ deeper integration into the European community, marking a significant milestone in their journeys towards European integration.

On October 12, 2023, in the magnificent venue of the Savoia hotel in Rome (Italy), the vice president of ALDA and representative of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Mr. Alessandro Perelli, met the President of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Commission of the Italian Senate, Ms. Stefania Craxi, to discuss the promotion of European values and other issues related to the work of ALDA.

On 6 September 2023, Civil Society Europe launched its Civil Society State of the Union report (CS SOTEU). The CS SOTEU comprises the visions and recommendations of 43 civil society organisations for a more democratic and just EU, both socially and environmentally.

EU4Accountability is an European Union-funded programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of Moldovan civil society organisations to better fulfil their role as governance actors to improve the social accountability of public administration and central government in Moldova (🇲🇩).

The ‘Enlargement Day’ organised by the Committee of the Regions in cooperation with DG Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), and the European Commission took place on 4 and 5 May 2023 in Brussel, Belgium.

Our team was in İzmir (Türkiye) together with our partners MAD – Center for Spatial Justice for a coordination and monitoring visit of THE:PLACE programme, which aims to reinforce European Union exchange with Turkish Civil Society Organisations and cooperation between Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities. 

A team composed by ALDA Governing Board Member, Mr. Emir Coric, ALDA Secretary General, Mrs. Antonella Valmorbida, ALDA EaP, Russia & Central Asia Coordinator, Mr. Alexandru Coica, the Consultant for LDAs development in Ukraine, Mr. Bartlomiej A. Ostrowski and the Director of Foster Europe, Mr. Stefan August Lutgenau, left on Tuesday May 2nd for a five-day mission to Ukraine.
